Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it has seized a U.S. REMUS 600 autonomous underwater vehicle in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian officials claim the drone was conducting surveillance and was captured during a coordinated operation involving intelligence monitoring and electronic warfare. The IRGC says the REMUS 600 has been handed over to Iranian specialists for data recovery and analysis.

The reported seizure marks the second U.S. underwater drone capture claimed by Iran this month, following the earlier capture of a Dive-LD vehicle. The development raises questions over what information and technology could potentially be recovered from the captured vehicle.

Iran has also warned that it considers the Strait of Hormuz closed and says it will respond to unauthorized movements in the waterway.
